Just one sloping block from Bay Street is River Street, one of the more bustling (and admittedly touristy) parts of Savannah. But River Street is touristy for a reason. Lined with restaurants, bars and a variety of shops, it’s fun for roaming around for a few hours and watching giant container ships ride down the river on their way to the ports. While you’re there, stop in at the Savannah Candy Company, one of the Savannah-themed chochki stores or the Peanut Shop of Savannah. As you keep walking down River Street, visit the River Street Market Place where you can browse the different stalls that sell everything from jewelry to local art to t-shirts.
